historic/museum: Allegheny Portage Railroad NHS

Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site, Altoona, PA
The project scope was the transformation of the Staple Bend Tunnel, the first railroad tunnel in the United States, c. 1832, into a year-round recreation trail. Stabilization of the masonry and rock of the 901 foot long, historic tunnel was the main focus of the project. Engineering breakthroughs, when the tunnel was built, such as segmented canal boats, were interpreted in the design.
